Mental Health Counseling Master’s Courses
Program overview
University of Bridgeport’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is designed to provide you with the advanced knowledge and clinical skills necessary to become the compassionate counselor your community needs. Our 60-credit evidence-based curriculum blends classroom learning with practical experience. As you learn the best practices of modern counseling, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your knowledge with an internship in the field.
Preparing for professional success
Our comprehensive, trauma-informed curriculum helps prepare you for success on the National Counseling Exam (NCE). The NCE is administered by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). Passing the NCE is required to earn your legal counseling certification. Professional counselors must hold a license in the state where they practice. In Connecticut, the Department of Health issues licensure for clinical mental health counselors.
Fieldwork requirements
When you earn your master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at University of Bridgeport, you complete 700 hours of fieldwork experience, including a 100-hour practicum and 600 hours of internship experience. To earn your licensure and legally provide counseling services, you must complete 3000 hours of supervised fieldwork experience. After completing your master’s in Counseling courses at UB, you will be responsible for fulfilling your remaining fieldwork requirements.
