• Support your student’s exploration of new areas of study and interests.
• Support your student’s responsible involvement in campus activities but urge balance with responsibilities.
• Talk with your students about their activities and classes. Your willingness to listen will and be a sounding board will keep you in the loop.
• Don’t panic if your student wants to major in English or Art. These can be great choices especially if they match your student’s skills and interests.
• Affirm what you know to be areas of skill and ability your student has consistently demonstrated. Sometimes students overlook these areas and need reminding.
• Urge your student to visit the Center for Career Development. There are counselors who want to help your student succeed!

• Take career tests to determine personality preferences, interests, values, and work style.
• Do research to determine whether their career path is compatible with their personality and life goals.
• Explore extracurricular activities is important. Joining campus clubs and organizations can help students create friendships, have fun, and develop career skills.
• Get to know professors, faculty, counselors, staff, and administrators. This is when students begin to build their network!
• Attend job and internship fairs to aid summer jobs or internships searches.
• Make an appointment with the Center for Career Development (located on the Garden Level of Wahlstrom Library) and become familiar with the career resources available.
